Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1

Morning Journey & North Cappadocia Discovery

06:00 – Departure from Ankara: Your adventure begins at the Ankara Intercity Bus Terminal (AŞTİ). You will board a comfortable, air-conditioned bus for a scenic drive across the Central Anatolian steppe. (Please arrive 30 mins early. Departure time may vary slightly by season).

10:00 – Welcome to Cappadocia: Upon arrival at the bus station, you have free time until 10:30. After a short break to stretch your legs, you will meet your professional guide to start the Red Tour.

  1. Devrent Valley (Imagination Valley): Our first encounter with the surreal. Here, the pink tuff rocks have been eroded into whimsical shapes. It’s like a natural sculpture gallery where you can spot the famous “Camel Rock.”
  2. Pasabag (Monks Valley): A place of solitude and giant rocks. You will wander among the most impressive fairy chimneys with mushroom caps, seeing the hermit cells carved high into the stone pillars.
  3. Avanos Pottery Experience: We cross the Red River to visit a local atelier. You will witness the mesmerizing art of pottery making on a kick-wheel, a craft that has defined this town for millennia.
  4. Lunch Break: We pause for a delightful lunch at a local restaurant to taste the flavors of the region.
  5. Zelve Open Air Museum: The highlight of the day. Zelve is an abandoned cave town spread across three valleys. Unlike crowded museums, here you can explore ancient tunnels, cave homes, and rock-cut churches in a peaceful, authentic atmosphere.
  6. Uchisar Castle (Panorama): We conclude the sightseeing with a photo stop at the base of the region’s highest rock fortress. The view extends for miles in every direction.

17:00 – Hotel Check-in: We transfer you to your hotel. The evening is yours to relax, explore the local shops, or dine at a rooftop restaurant. Overnight in Cappadocia.

Day 2

South Valleys, Underground City & Return

09:30 – Tour Starts: Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and check out (we will store your luggage). Our guide picks you up for the Yellow Tour, focusing on the colorful valleys and hidden history.

  1. Red & Rose Valleys: We start with a refreshing walk through these interconnected valleys. The cliffs glow with pastel reds and pinks, and the trails are dotted with vineyards and hidden pigeon houses.
  2. Cavusin Village: A walk through history. This old Greek village features a massive cliff face honeycombed with abandoned homes. It’s a photographer’s paradise and a window into the past.
  3. Lunch Break: A well-deserved lunch break at a traditional restaurant.
  4. Pigeon Valley: We stop at a panoramic viewpoint to admire the thousands of pigeon cotes carved into the white cliffs near Uchisar.
  5. Ozkonak Underground City: Our final adventure takes us deep into the earth. Built on the slopes of Mt. Idis, this subterranean city features unique defensive holes above the tunnels and massive stone doors used to block invaders.

17:00 – Tour Ends: We transfer you back to the Cappadocia Bus Station.

18:00 – Return to Ankara: You board the evening bus back to the capital. Reflect on your journey as you travel through the night.

22:30 – Arrival: You arrive back at Ankara AŞTİ Bus Terminal. (Arrival time is approximate).

I am claustrophobic so I skipped the deep levels of the underground city, but there was plenty else to see. The open air museum is open and beautiful. The guide was understanding. Great trip.

Day 1 we did the North tour, Day 2 the South tour. It covers everything. The Ihlara Valley on the second day was a nice change of scenery with the river and trees. The bus ride back to Ankara felt shorter because we were tired and slept.

For the price, you get a lot. Transport, guide, hotel, meals... it's a bargain. The quality was better than I expected. The hotel was clean and the food was fresh. Cappadocia is a must-see.
